Thank you for your interest in Burley Celtic Woodwinds.
Graham Burley has had a lifelong obsession with Bagpipes. At his own insistance, he began lessons on the Great Highland Bagpipe at age seven. Over the course of his piping career he has added Smallpipes, Uilleann Pipes, and Penny Whistles to his repertoire.
Today he is an accomplished and respected Piper/Musician. Graham is the Pipe Major of the Ben Nevis Pipe Band. He plays with a Celtic Folk Group called "Alba," and is the Pipe Band Director at the Vimy Ridge Academy.
In 1999, the scarcity of the Uilleann Pipes was the impetus for Graham to start experimenting with pipemaking.
Under the direction of his father, John, a retired Journeyman Machinist, Graham began working on his own Uilleann set. As his skills developed, Graham found he loved pipe-making as much as pipe-playing, and a new obsession was born.Today Graham possesses knowledge and skills that are the result of thousands of hours of research and practice. His studio is equipped with an impressive array of machine shop equipment and custom-made tools. Graham's instruments are a mixture of science and art. Drones and Chanter Bores are produced using highly precise modern equipment, while all external shaping is done lovingly by hand. The result is an instrument that looks and sounds beautiful.
